      Immigrated from Germany and lived in St. Charles on a farm in Missouri. When the children were grown they moved to Maplewood then to Webster Grove. He then worked in a brick factory. - Mervel

      Moved to St. Louis and had a furniture store which was a flop. Maria as a result ran a boarding house. Gottlieb's sisters all travelled back to Germany for a visit. Gottlieb wanted no part of going back.

      Battalion lost during service 1 Enlisted man killed and 12 Enlisted men by disease. Total 13.

      Gottlieb was given a bugle and told to learn how to play it. He would sit at the end of the bridge and practice. The rebels were on the other side and thought he was sending messages somehow and never came across. This has been in the family stories for generations.
