"...Thomas Halbert of Pelham in the county of Hampshire and Province of the Massachusetts Bay in New England yeoman for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred pound ... truly paid by Roswell Knowlton of East Haddam in the County of Hartford and Colony of Connecticut yeoman ...a certain lot of land containing one hundred and five acres lying in Belchertown said Lot is number seven of that part of the Equivalent Land which formerly belonged to Ebenezer and Benjamin Pemberton of Boston and is bounded as follows ... north by Lot number eight of said Land which belongs to Jared Knowlton ...Signed sealed and delivered in presence of us Jared Knowlton James Halbert."

This establishes that the Roswell Knowlton of Belchertown is the Roswell from East Haddam, Connecticut, not the Roswell Knowlton son of Silas Knowlton as referred to in the Knowlton Genealogy book by Stocking, 1897. Also, Roswell's brother, Jared, purchased land (lot #8) prior to Roswell.

"...Item I give and bequeath unto my dearly beloved wife Sophia Knowlton First A mourning suit...
Item I give and bequeath unto my four daughters (viz) Aseneth, Alice, Dorothy, and Anna ten shilling. To each of them severaly to be paid out of my estate.
Item I give and bequeath unto Rosel Knowlton my son the one third part of all my landed interest to his own use and benefit forever.
Item I give and bequeath unto Warren Knowlton my son one quarter part of all my landed interest to his own use and benefit forever.
Item I give and bequeath unto the(?) other two of my sons Elisha and Dutton all the rest of my landed property to be equally divided between them and if one or both of them should be desireous to any (?) they are to the liberty.
Item I give and bequeath unto my two daughters Nancy and Susannah all my moveable estate to be equally divided between them.

Shows headstone for Rosel Knowlton died May 15, 1805 aged 60
Whoever created the headstone was off by one year. Also the Church records state Roswell died on May 5, 1806.
