  • Notes
    • Yellow Fever Epidemic
Yellow fever was periodically rampant in Philadelphia from 1793 - 1799. It's possible that Henry Weiss died of this disease in late 1798 or early 1799 while he was a schoolmaster in Philadelphia.

    • 26 Feb 1799 Probate Record in Longswamp Twp, Berks Co., PA
Margaret wife of Henry Weiss "late of City of Philadelphia Schoolmaster deceased" renounced her duties as administrator to Henry's estate and requested that "her brother in law" Elias Ritz be the Administrator.

7 March 1803 Henry Weiss, eldest son of Henry, deceased late of Longswamp Township, Schoolmaster, leaving a widow named Margaret and eleven children: Henry, John, Catherine, Elias, Elizabeth, Philip, Magdelena, Margaret, Rachel, Polly, and Sarah, the last ten yet in their minority, petitioned the Orphans Court to divide several tracts of land (210 acres) in Longswamp among the heirs. The property adjoins Christian Fegely, Christian Ritz and others.

6 June 1803 Catharine and John, minors above the age of 14, petitioned the court and requested guardianship.

6 Jun 1803 Henry Weiss, son of Henry, petitioned the court that his father died intestate leaving eleven children, that Margaret, Rachel, Magdalena, Polly, and Sarah are minors under the age of 14,and to appoint a guardian for his sisters. Elias Ritz was appointed guardianship for the five girls.

5 Aug 1808 Orphans Court accepted Elias' second accounting of Henry's estate.
