Notes - Myrtle contracted typhoid fever probably about 1915 and became very sick. Her family was very concerned that she might not survive, so they boarded a train to St. Louis with Bessie (Chess' sister) who was a nurse to take her to East St. Louis where her parents lived. When they arrived in St. Louis an ambulance was used to take her to the parents' home. Pearl was concerned because she thought the ambulance was a hearse and that her sister had died on the train. Myrtle recovered from the disease with the help of several local Christian Scientist members who would come to the house to pray with her. This is probably why Myrtle became a Christian Scientist. Notes from Mervel.
